…You killed my father. Prepare to die!”
Witty banter, a bazillion quotable quotes, and Andre the Giant spouting poetry. How can you go wrong with The Princess Bride ?
It’s funny how a few words from our collective history can bring back such fond memories. I loved this movie when it came out in 1987 (yes, I just dated myself), so when a friend told me it was the featured “retro” flick at a nearby theater last night, I was all over it before you could say “mawwiage”.
It was just as much fun as I remembered. We laughed, we quoted, and one of us may or may not have even snorted and knee-slapped a time or two. I’ll never tell.
In 1987, I didn’t even know the friends who attended the movie with me last night. It was fun to re-live something enjoyable from my past, but it was even better knowing that I was making new memories with my best grown-up friends. Our shared interest pulled the past into our present and gave us a fun memory to take into the future.
And who knows what that future will hold? Our kids will grow up, our seasons of life will change, and our paths may have to go in different directions. So we make time to celebrate life with those we cherish. We step out of our role as Mothers every so often to laugh, have fun, and remember what it was like to be more carefree.
Life without movies wouldn’t be as much fun – or as quotable. But life without friendships?
That would be inconceivable.
What are you doing to make memories with your friends?
