On Fridays, Lisa-Jo provides the prompt, and we dive in headfirst with hearts and words. It’s a little game called Five Minute Friday, played by an amazing community of writers seeking His hand in the everyday. Won’t you join us?
Today’s prompt is ENOUGH.
Ready?
– GO –
.
The house is a mess and the kids are fighting and I’m tired, so tired. The dog peed on the floor again and I haven’t called my mother in a week and the laundry is piled up from camp and how will I ever catch up?
On the days I feel behind – drowning in do more, be more – I remember it’s not just about me. Like the one little boy in a sea of five thousand plus with only five loaves and two fish, like the woman at the synagogue with only two coins for the offering, Jesus makes me enough. He is interested in the state of my heart, not what I bring to the table. He doesn’t need my hands to do his will, but He invites me to participate in the wonder of blessing that always makes scarcity enough.
It is His strength that sees me through each day, His faithfulness that presses on when I feel overwhelmed. He asks for my willing heart and provides more than enough to make up the deficit. His storehouse never runs dry, never feels the pangs of emptiness or the impact of loss.
Lord, help me remember that this life is not just about me and my small offering, but about the God who takes my lack and makes it overflow with His goodness.
And my God will meet all your needs
according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
~ Philippians 4:19
God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
~ Psalm 46:1-3

“Lord, help me remember that this life is not just about me and my small offering, but about the God who takes my lack and makes it overflow with His goodness.”
AMEN!! Praying this with you today Jana.
LOVE your heart!
Thanks, sweet friend. I’m SO excited to hear your Jeremy is coming home for a while. God will provide, sister. I’m praying for and with you. Love you!
Your post today was just what I needed to read, thanks Jana! Even in the middle of the chaos of everyday life like you describe or the feeling of being parched in an arid desert (like I’m feeling), Jesus is more than enough. And that reminds me of that Chris Tomlin song –
“All of You is more than enough for all of me
For every thirst and every need
You satisfy me with Your love
And all I have in You is more than enough.”
Can’t think of a better song to run through my mind today! Be blessed, my friend.
Oh Mama, I love that song and Chris Tomlin! I’m sorry you’re in a parched place right now. Praying Isaiah 43:18-19 for you today, my friend:
“Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.”
((hugs))
Beautiful truth from a beautiful lady. Thank you for sharing God’s heart with us today.
Thank you, my friend. We need to do lunch together again soon! Have a blessed weekend.
Good grief, Jana, this is beautiful. What beauty you weave in just five minutes…. Praying with you that I’d remember that it’s not about what I bring to the table! I needed this, and I loved it. LOVE YOU!.
You bring your humble heart and desire to glorify Him, and He makes it into a feast for kings, sister. You know I love you. XOXO
This is perfection. Amazing, and so much what we need to hear!! Thank you!!
Thanks, Meredith. I think I needed the reminder, too!
I love that he always “makes scarcity enough”! Such a great thought. His enough is more than enough isn’t it. I’m always amazed when I find myself living on the fumes of my own energy when his abundance is available! Good word today!
Thanks, Beck. I love that you sometimes live “on the fumes of my own energy” — yes, that’s exactly it! May we both learn to eat His feast instead of choking down fumes. Amen.
My goodness did I ever need this today, Jana. Thank you.
He is interested in the state of my heart, not what I bring to the table….
I’m going to remind myself of that over and over until I believe it in my marrow…
Hugs to you, friend!
I don’t know why I have to wear myself thin before I remember His mercy… I’m sorry you’re also in the boat, but I’m sort of glad to have such great company!
Yes, let’s repeat His goodness over and over together. Happy Friday, Nikki!
Leaning in with you in this. I should know by now, I know. We journey together. Thank you for the grace — I’m soaking in mercy.
Some day I’ll walk in righteousness. Until then, I’m so thankful for His grace and friends who understand. Hugs, sister.
Wow, I’m so glad I’m not the only one feeling this way during the summer “break”! But it is so easy to take my eyes off him and onto my selfish self and whine and complain. Thanks for the reminder to walk in HIS strength!
Thank you so much for sharing this. I was thinking earlier today that I felt a little lost in the laundry. You know…that moment where you think “if I have to fold one more thing I could just cry”. So I did 2 things…prayed and then called my mom. All this to say that I have been there and your words were sweet to my soul today. Thank you. Blessings!
Thanks, for this Jana! I love what you bring to the table! It’s always enough for me!
He is enough and, with Him, we are enough. I just love it. Great post!

That was such a much needed reminder (especially hit home with the ‘hadn’t called my mother in a week’) Thank you for your honest, and loving, words!
