Have you ever had a week that made you want to throw your hands in the air and shout, “Thank you, Lord! It’s F-R-I-I-I-I-D-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-Y!” ???
Yep, me too.
How appropriate — seriously, not a coincidence! — that today’s Five Minute Friday prompt is CHANGE.
Ready?
GO!
SOmetimes you feel the momentum of a change churning, spilling forth and driving you into the unknown. You know God is working and is ever faithful, so you cling to Him as the rollercoaster begins to climb…
It feels like the entire focus of my life has changed in the past three weeks. My sweet, loving, amazing son started kindergarten and thought I knew where this ride was taking us. The excitement built as we bought our ticket for the big event, chose our seats, chatted nervously about how it would play out. Then the cars started moving and we accelerated so much faster than I expected. We climbed and held our breath as the wave crested, broke, and plunged us down, down, gaining speed and spinning toward a loop-de-loop I had only seen at a distance.
Plan B always comes as a shock, but God knew we’d arrive here all along — and it’s going to be an amazing ride with HIm leading the way.
After a bumpy, two-week ride in a traditional school setting, we’ve decided to homeschool our son.
Talk. about. change.
This wild ride is exciting and frightening and overwhelming and humbling. It has already changed our trajectory as a family and I’m anxious for the ride to “officially” start on Monday.
I never thought I’d say this, but I can’t wait to see what changes God has in store for us!
STOP
Sweet friends, I hope this helps explain why I’ve been
almost nonexistent around here for the past
several weeks! We’ve had a lot going on.
I have SO much more to share with you, but it will
have to wait just a bit longer. I’ve been assembling shelves,
setting up our new schoolroom and trying to get organized
all day — I’m one tired mama! I know God led us to this decision
and it’s going to be a great change for our little man.
** If you homeschool and have any
words of wisdom to share, I’m all ears! **
I’d love to hear your story! Please leave a comment below,

Good for you. Embracing that change and call for your family is always a big scary change but so thrilling too. I’m a homeschool mama and while it can be tough at times, it is one of the biggest blessings in my life. I’m always here if you have any questions or just need an encouraging word. You’ll do great! Welcome to the wonderful world of home education.
Wow, I’m getting ready to start homeschooling too! Currently trying to settle into life as a family of five. Our third was born two weeks ago. So…the curriculum is sitting in the boxes. Blessings to you as you begin this new journey! And may there be grace for my mess too!
What a blessing that’s in store for you and your kiddos! I LOVE homeschooling! There are days that are just plain hard, and perhaps even days I’ve questioned my sanity, but never a day that I haven’t been thankful for the time I’ve spent with my children and the closeness we’ve had because of it. I pray for a truly blessed year for you! My first year of homeschooling someone loaned me a wonderful book called Educating the Wholehearted Child by Clay and Sally Clarkson. It was a perfect book to start my homeschooling experience with and I recommend it again and again. God bless Jana!
I found you on five minute Friday, I had to keep wiping the tears from my eyes, Your quote on Plan B really hit home for me. What a beautiful and touching post. So happy that you know what your plan is, good luck on that beautiful journey.
we’re going through a mad change, too. i teach part-time at a school for mks and expat kids… and home school two of my kiddos. but, the school was flooded so we are in the midst of moving a school to a new location, rescuing all of our materials as we can, cleaning furniture that was in the water, restructuring and rescheduling the school day… etc., etc., etc… lots of change! kudos to you for how you are embracing this new journey… but it is also ok to have days where you ask the Lord to let you step off the roller coaster, at least for a few minutes.
hope you have a great school year!
So thankful you were sensitive enough to recognize what your little man needed. Although I’m not a homeschooler, I know the commitment is GREAT!! God’s got you and He knew the direction you’d go.
Happy FMF, my friend!
Bless you.
I’d noticed you’d been quiet, so I’ve been praying! Wow. Huge change. But so glad you are embracing it instead of crying over it! The Lord has equipped you for every good work, so if one of those is to homeschool your son, He’s got you covered, girlfriend! I’ll be praying blessing heap upon blessing as you walk in faithfulness to His call.
What an incredible post! And a challenge…so glad you took the step to do what is right for your son. I’ll be praying for you!

Oh mylanta. Yay! I’m not alone! We start our first homeschooling journey (kindergarten) next week!
and girl, I can only image how tough that was. But look at you doing what ended up being best for your family. What a blessing it is to have a choice!
We can do this. let’s hold each other up, okay?
I love that you’re brave enough to make the decision you feel is best for you child. The years we homeschooled our children were difficult – yet- wonderful times. Good for you!
You KNOW how thrilled I am for this new adventure, in so many ways God is answering your prayers–always in ways we dont necessarily expect or anticipate, but I love having a front row seat, watching God move in your life–it’s AMAZING! He will equip you, and guide you every step of the way!! Love you. You know it.
Found you on FMF. Isn’t it interesting to see where God leads, and the adventures He takes us on. Prayers for the upcoming journey!
